Knights defeat Spencer in opening match of season

Six players scored Braxton Middle’s 11 goals in the Knights’ victory over the Spencer Middle School Yellow Jackets Monday night. Coach Lindsey Casto commented that Mallory Daniels had “a very impressive shot at the goal which led to the first of many goals of the evening.” The players who scored were Daniels, Blaine Hines, Zack McQuain, Josh Anderson, Joal Ransbottom, and Holden Lloyd.
The coach emphasized that the players’ group effort definitely led to the team’s success. “What I think defined our team was that we played as a unit and not as individuals,” the coach commented. She continued to note that her team “played with a very balanced offense” and explained.
“They had good communication and backed up each other. The defense also had a huge impact on the results of the game. Midline defenders kept the ball up to our offense, and if one slid past them, back defenders were there to get the ball back up the field with one of their strong kicks.” At goal, Hines had 3 saves and Anderson 1.
The Knights, varsity and junior varsity, played Summersville next Wednesday.
