Highmark WV donates $100,000 to MFB’s Veterans Table Program

Mountaineer Food Bank received a $100,000 check from Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health to support its Veterans Table Program Thursday, August 4th. President James Fawcett along with Cathy McAlister and Bethany Ross of Highmark Health Corporate Communications presented the donation and received a tour of the food banks Gassaway warehouse.

“We’re hoping to make an impact,” said Jim Fawcett, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield West Virginia. “The ultimate result we’re hoping for is more security around access to food and better help for those who receive it.”

The generous donation will be used to purchase food, supplies and other necessities to aid the food bank in feeding 1,200 veterans and their families each month. “There’s a lot of need out there right now, and we’re seeing a lot of families struggle,” said Chad Morrison, CEO of Mountaineer Food Bank. “Support like this from Highmark makes an incredible difference and brings us closer to meeting the needs of West Virginians, especially veterans, who are facing the harsh reality of food insecurity.”
