Former BCHS athlete is finalist for MEC’s Scholar Athlete of the Year

Seth Arnold, a varsity football player for the Glenville State Pioneers, was recently announced as the finalist representing Glenville State University for the league’s Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Arnold was a four-year starter for the Braxton County High Eagles football team.

Each institution in the Mountain East Conference selected one male and one female as finalists for the award, with the two winners being announced later this month. Criteria for nomination include a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade-point average, participation in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests in a MEC-sponsored sport, and a minimum of one year of residence at the institution.  Other honors to be announced include Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Player of the Year along with Coaches of the Year.

Arnold, who played in all the Pioneers’ games this past season, meets the GPA criteria He is the only football player among the finalists, and he carries a 3.8 cumulative GPA.  On the field, he led his team in total tackles (90) and was second in the conference in that area as well as first in the conference in solo tackles. He had 11 tackles for loss. The son of Daniel and Tammy Arnold, Seth is the father of Lincoln Cole Arnold.
