Local West Virginia State Police Sergeant Andrew J. Shingler received the US Attorney’s Award for Excellence in Pursuit of Justice in a ceremony held at the Robert C. Byrd United States Courthouse in Charleston, last Friday, May 20. The award was presented by William S. Thompson United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Shingler was nominated for this award based on his work in the case of US v. Everett Maynard. A prominent civil rights violation against a southern West Virginia police officer.
In accepting the prestigious award, Sgt. Shingler stated he was honored to be selected for such recognition.
Sgt. Shingler is a twenty-four year veteran of the West Virginia State Police, currently assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Shingler is the Commander of the Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit and is a deputized TFO of the US Department of Homeland Security.
The lifelong resident of Braxton County and his wife Tanya, along with their three children reside in Flatwoods.
