The weather is unpredictable at the least. The summer like weekend that we just experienced was certainly a welcome interlude to all the mess we have had lately. Probably, like many of you, I managed to get a sun burn Saturday, while working on the boat. Yes, it’s a bit uncomfortable, but when I experience the discomfort, I just think that it could be snowing… it really isn’t that bad after all.
Friday after work I helped put two of our Lake Family boats in the water. Saturday, thanks to my family, we will probably put our houseboat in the water next weekend. The work didn’t go as scheduled, but we have a plan, so look out lake… here we come.
Saturday was not devoted to just my boat. I helped on a couple of others… all jobs need more supervisors, and I was glad to oblige. We always have spring projects. None of the boats are new so there is always maintenance and sometimes rebuilding to do. But with a good group of friends and relatives coupled with 80-degree temperatures, there is no place I would rather be.
Doug, Shane and I finished up the motor swap on our pontoon Sunday afternoon. That job went very well. We even put it in the water and believe it or not… it ran. Our group is down to just a few houseboats left to go in the water. I think everyone is hopeful that next weekend will be launch day. At least I hope so.
Even in special session…
The Legislature is at it again. You will note an article on this page from the WV Press Association. For all practical purposes, it will be too late to do more than just read about it, since this is scheduled to be a one-day Special Session, but I felt the topic was important enough to inform our readers. The reason for the lateness is that the call for the extra session wasn’t released until late last week.
As you can read, the Legislative leadership and the Governor want to make another branch of government secret. They don’t want the public to know or be able to find out what they are up to. They harp that they want to be transparent for the voters. This portion of this bill doesn’t support that claim. It will be interesting to see how this develops. I can only hope it is not the beginning of another government attempt to shield their activities from the public that elected them.
