As the temperatures are warming, buds on fruit trees are swelling, daffodils are blooming and gardeners are yearning to get out into their gardens. The cure for this year’s spring fever is “Spring into Gardening” on April 23, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the Sutton Farmer’s Market. The workshop will provide some basic information on gardening for beginning and experienced gardeners alike. The focus will be an activity to get gardeners thinking about the layout and design of their garden – whether they plan to grow flowers, vegetables, fruit or other edibles.
The program begins at 10:00 a.m. with local Extension Master Gardeners giving a brief introduction to soils, site selection, choosing seeds and transplants, companion planting, insect pests and beneficial insects to control pests. Following the introductory sessions, participants will be provided with items to design a layout of their garden space. This program is planned with both young and old, and new and experienced gardeners in mind.
Seeds and fact sheets about a variety of gardening subjects will be available for participants at no charge.
