Careers in Education students excel in Educators Rising event

By Shirley Shuman

Thirteen BCHS students from Sharon Desper’s Careers in Education competed in the Educators Rising Spring Competition and Convention last week. Eleven of those earned trophies. Four earned first place trophies, two received second, and two third. This was Braxton’s first participation in this competition.

As their instructor, Desper was extremely pleased with the results of her students’ work. She emphasized that her students had never competed in Educators Rising Spring Competition and said, “So we were a little nervous going in.”  Continuing to explain one reason for the nervousness, she noted, “We had never seen these events before and had to teach ourselves how to do them.”

She expressed her reaction to the results of her students’ hard work. “It was shocking and gratifying to have won so many events. Braxton owned that podium.”

Earning first place trophies were Erica Nicholson, Paxton Conley, and Haley Morris in Ethical Dilemma; Jeffrey Evans in Exploring Non-Core Subjects; Emma Hardway and Emma Flinn in Inside Our School and Tyler Garett in Impromptu Lesson.

Second place trophies went to Sarah Davis in Children’s Literature and Kaylee Criner in Job Interview. Hayden Lemon in Lesson Planning and Delivery (Humanities) placed third, and Nicole Bramble placed third in Children’s Literature.
