Braxton Native Selected SJMH’s Employee of the Month

Respiratory therapist Stephanie Smyth has been named the January 2022 ICARE Employee of the Month for Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH), in Weston.
Stephanie has been at SJMH since November 2009 after graduating from West Virginia Tech with an Associates of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Stephanie is pleased with the honor and said, “I have truly enjoyed my work here at Stonewall because of my wonderful co-workers. Though this year has been extremely challenging for respiratory therapists, we have worked together to provide the best care for our patients and that makes the job satisfying.”
A nomination for the monthly Employee of the Month honor is based on the ICARE acronym of Integrity, Commitment, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Stephanie’s nominator cited these qualities for her nomination.
Her nominator wrote, “Stephanie is an amazing person inside and out. She is always helpful to anyone and will do anything you ever ask her to do. She is always supporting patients and wanting to do what is best for them. She is compassionate and considerate. Stephanie takes care of her patients in multiple ways and likes to educate them about being vaccinated. She always encourages them to get better. She always has a smile on her face when she comes into our unit. She has two children and a husband who are her whole world and she is the best mom to them all.”
Stephanie and her husband, Adam, have two children – a daughter, Haygen, 10, and son Jackson, 8. The couple lives in Sutton with their Schnauzer, Sophie; Joey, the Goldendoodle; and Heathcliff, the Persian cat. Her parents are Suzanne and Mark Wine of Lewis County. She graduated from Braxton County High School.
Stephanie also related that her life revolves around her husband and children. When she has her days off, she is spending time with them.
She was philosophical about her life and said, “I now live my life to enjoy the moment because you do not know the future. I want to make great memories with my family.”
