Eagles host 1st annual alumni basketball game

The 1st annual Braxton County High School alumni basketball game was held this past Saturday at the BCHS gym. Over 30 alumni signed up for the event with graduation years ranging from 1996 to 2021. With the score tied 107-107, 2009 graduate Tiffani Huffman drilled a 3 pointer to give the white team the 110-107 victory. The green team was coached by 1996 graduate Rick Garavaglia while Robert Lloyd, class of 1997, led the white team.

“The turnout for both players and fans in attendance was great,” said Braxton County Athletic Director and event coordinator Nate Smarr’s. “I think everyone involved had a good time and is looking forward to the 2022 game.”
“I want to thank Heath Stewart for his donations that helped pay for the alumni T-shirts and a big thanks to Jessica Smarr for helping to organize the event and keeping it running smoothly.”

The money raised will go into the BCHS athletic department fund and will be used for equipment, jerseys, scoreboard, scorer’s table upgrades, etc. “My goal as AD is to create better opportunities for the student-athletes, better our facilities and to bring Eagle athletics to the level where we are competing for not only for conference championships but state championships in every sport,” added Smarr. “We have great coaches in place and the athletes want to be successful. We as a community and school must give them every opportunity to succeed.”
